"True to their name, the members of Classical Jam are capable improvisers and brought plenty of high spirits to their playing."
-Brian Wise, The Strad Magazine
"I had the distinct pleasure of presenting Classical Jam at Strathmore as part of a five-day residency in 2010. Not only did they perform varied artistic and technically challenging programs for a close to sold-out audience in two of our venues, but they engaged in outreach with our community... As I stood at the back of the house on both nights of Classical Jam’s concerts at Strathmore, one in our 100-seat room and the other with the Maryland Classic Youth Orchestras in the 1,976-seat hall, I got tingles up my spine as audience members engaged with the performance and rose to their feet at the end to show their appreciation. It was one of my proudest moments as a presenter in the Washington, D.C. area market."
-Georgina Javor, Director of Programming, Strathmore, MD
"Many arts managers pay lip-service to the importance of bringing classical music to new audiences. Classical Jam, a freewheeling ensemble of five New York soloists and chamber players, wants to make it happen." (Click to read complete article)

"In addition to performing works by Mozart, Bach and Brahms with the utmost respect and musicianship, these award-winning and internationally performing musicians are not above mixing it up with contemporary pieces, exploring their own arrangements of the classics, and, as their name implies, often adding a healthy dose of improvisation." "A perfect combination of crowd-pleasing performances and superb Master-class instruction! Our students and our community loved them."
-Paul Conn, President of Lee University, Cleveland, TN
"The technical excellence of each individual member combined with the camaraderie and friendship within the group truly makes you a delightful group to watch.... Everywhere Classical Jam visited...you gave an energetic performance. At each site I liked how you involved the audience in your performances, and taught them that Classical Music can be fun!.. Also memorable were your workshop for teachers, and Classical Master Jam, a master class in which all the students- cello, violin, viola and flute- came together at the end and jammed with the professionals."
-Susan Wahlmann, Quad Cities Arts, IL
"The students and faculty of Ohio Wesleyan would like to thank you for an outstanding performance and educational visit with us last Friday. The master class on improvisation skills in classical music settings was excellent. Classical Jam’s pedagogical approach addressed the necessary fundamentals of how to approach improvisation. I was impressed that you found a way to challenge our advanced improvisers while meeting the needs of students who have had little experience with improvisation before.
Student feedback from the master class has been overwhelmingly enthusiastic and positive. The quality of expression our students were able to achieve in a short amount of time by balancing their personal musical ideas with the guidance of the Classical Jam members was due to very expert music teaching. In my opinion, it was the best kind of music learning experience: students were making music, learning, and enjoying themselves the entire time.
Furthermore, the performance Friday night, From the Street to the Concert Hall, was superb. Classical Jam’s programming selections are imaginative, entertaining, and exceedingly delightful. Not only did your performance meet the highest degree of technical quality and expression, but the creative choices in programming were excitingly fresh. The multimedia Brahms accompaniment to a famous Charlie Chaplin scene, the improvised variations on a Bach fugue, and the incorporation of extraordinary percussion in There’s a Hole in My Bucket were just three examples of the consistent originality and musicality in Classical Jam’s performance.
The highlight of the night was certainly the collaborative improvised performance to close out the concert with our students from the master class. Giving them the opportunity to work, learn, and perform with you on stage is a memory that Ohio Wesleyan and the Delaware community will always cherish. Classical Jam truly exceeded my expectations for an artistic educational visit and we would love to have your ensemble back on our campus for another visit! I wish you all the best in your future endeavors and I hope our paths will cross again someday.
